HARD CHROME / TDC There are a number of industrial coatings like hard chrome or
variations of such that work well to add surface hardness to our products. We have found
through exhaustive testing and customer feedback that the coatings that yield the best
results are Armoloy or a variation of the Armoloy process known as TDC (thin dense
chrome).
The TDC product has higher surface density than regular hard chrome and does not peel
or chip off. The plating facility also plays a significant role in the success and life of
a given plating application. Electroless Nickel and composites using Nickel have resulted
in some unfavorable situations in unscrewing molds and with sliding components or gib side
action applications.
ELECTROLESS NICKEL Application of Electroless Nickel is recommended only for coating
components made of copper alloy, that are heated, such as probes or tips, as part of a hot
runner or manifold system. Without Electroless Nickel, hot runner/manifold components will
suffer an extremely short life in molds running commodity grades of polypropylene and
polyethelene.
